On Tuesday, August 12th at 10:31 p.m., Jimmy Eugene Markee, a 49 year old Brevard resident, was struck by a vehicle while crossing Asheville Highway at Chestnut Street.

"A truck went through the intersection on a green light and we're not sure why Mr. Markee went into the intersection after that.  He was struck by a 47 year old driver who was going home from work," said Brevard Police Chief, Phil Harris.

Markee was treated at the scene by Brevard Rescue and Transylvania County EMS and transferred by ground ambulance to Transylvania County Regional Hospital. He was then transported by helicopter to Mission Hospital in Asheville. Markee is listed in critical condition with serious life threatening injuries.

Police say the investigation has shown no impairment and no driver distraction issues by the driver of the vehicle. The vehicle speed has preliminarily been shown to be at or below the 40mph speed limit.Brevard Pedestrian Hit
