News 13 has more information on the identity of the man who shot at a Greenville Police Officer Monday night, then turned the gun on himself.

According to the Greenville County Coroner, 23-year-old Evan Casey Bennett shot his step-dad, 58-year-old Gregory Thomas Jones, at 18 Augusta Court in Greenville. The coroner says the step-dad was shot inside the home, once in the face.

"At that scene there was a mystery Gregory Thomas Jones who was shot by a family member, who we determined to be the stepson," says Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans.

After shooting his step-dad, Bennett headed to the law enforcement center on McGee Street.

Interim Chief Gambrell says, "after hours, the front
doors are locked. He started discharging a shotgun through the front
plate glass window there. We had both city officers and county officers
working the front desk at that point. They called for back-up."

A
Greenville Police Officer was nearby and responded quickly. News 13 is
told he got out of his car and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. At that point Bennett fired his shotgun, hitting the
officer. "The officer sustained three gunshot wounds, two to the lower
right side and one in the forearm-hand area," says Gambrell. The officer was able to fire one shot, but it appears he missed the suspect.

The coroner says Bennett shot himself once in the head. He adds they are still working to determine if any alcohol or drugs were found in Bennett's or Jones' system.

News 13 is working to find out the identity of the police officer shot and his latest condition.
