Hundreds of people hit the pavement in Haywood County to help infants get a healthy start on life.

The March for Babies took place Saturday morning at Lake Junaluska.

This is the biggest annual fundraiser for the March of Dimes and its efforts to help pre-term babies and their parents.

Organizers say Saturday's turnout shows how much people in this area care.

Zeb Smathers, chair, March for Babies, "there's a feeling of being part of a family, they may or may not share blood with someone that's been in a situation like this, but they come together, wanna be a part of something special to help, and I think that's something special here in Haywood County and here in western North Carolina."

The event included games for kids, music and other activities.

Money raised will go to support scientific research and educational programs for the March of Dimes.March for Babies
