A trucker from Lake Toxaway was killed Tuesday night in an accident in Durham.

Kenneth Lyle Anders was pronounced dead at the scene around 9 p.m., after his 18-wheeler hit a bridge pillar on I-85 North.

Officials
say speed nor alcohol were factors in the wreck. Witnesses said the
Anders' semi-truck suddenly swerved from the center lane and slammed
into the pillar.

Anders had been carrying a load of tomatoes to
Henderson, N.C. for B&A Hyder trucking company, where he had been
employed since 1998.

Coworkers said Anders was a quiet, kind and
thoughtful man. Thursday many declined to be interviewed, saying they
were too upset.

The accident marks the first fatality for
B&A Hyder, which is located in Hendersonville and employs about 40
people. The company's been in business since the '60s.
