We're continuing to learn more about an officer-involved shooting late Monday night in Greenville.

Interim Police Chief Mike Gambrell says officers were called to a home at 18 Augusta Court in Greenville, after a domestic situation turned deadly around 9:30 Monday night. Fifty-eight-year-old Gregory Thomas Jones was found dead at the scene.

Less than an hour later, a man showed up at the law enforcement center on McGee Street. Interim Chief Gambrell says, "after hours, the front doors are locked. He started discharging a shotgun through the front plate glass window there. We had both city officers and county officers working the front desk at that point. They called for back-up."

A Greenville Police Officer was nearby and responded quickly. News 13 is told he got out of his car and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. At that point, investigators say the man fired his shotgun, hitting the officer. "The officer sustained three gunshot wounds, two to the lower right side and one in the forearm-hand area," says Gambrell. "That's one of our family members, so we're encouraging everybody to keep him in your prayers."

The officer was able to fire one shot, but it appears he missed the suspect. The suspect was found dead in the parking lot, allegedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The coroner's office has identified the suspect as 23-year-old Evan Casey Bennett. Police say he had not only a shotgun, but a 9mm handgun. They believe he is connected to the homicide at 18 Augusta Court. The coroner's office listed both Bennett and Jones as residents at that address.

News 13 has learned the officer has worked for Greenville Police Department for a little over five years. He went immediately into surgery at Greenville Memorial and is said to be in serious condition.

The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating, which is standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting. Greenville Police Department will continue investigating the homicide at 18 Augusta Court. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday on both Bennett and Jones.
