A hidden cash craze is sweeping across the Upstate, and it was all started in our area by a woman on a retirement income who says she just wanted to bring a little positive energy into the world.

The anonymous woman who started "Hidden Cash Greenville" on Facebook spoke to News 13 on Tuesday. She says she is an introvert and doesn't like the spotlight, and thinks this isn't about her. "I don't want anyone I'm so wonderful or creative. I'm not, I'm just a person. You don't have to have a million dollars to do it."

The drops are usually ten $2 bills, and the clues are written by one of the donor's friends, the author of the Mice on Main hunt. Once she gets the clue, she posts it on the "Hidden Cash Greenville" page. She says she's ecstatic that so many other Upstate cities,  Simpsonville and Mauldin are the latest to join the craze, have started their own hunts.

"I love it, isn't that cool?! Yes, oh it's so cool! Two of them messaged me on Hidden Cash, asking 'Can you please help us? We're starting one in Anderson or Spartanburg, and we just don't have exposure yet.' So I put it on Hidden Cash Greenville to drive traffic to them, it's very cool."

She originally planned for 5 cash drops, but has since received two donations from others. She expects to post the clue for the 4th drop sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
