Characters Come Alive!

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 10:18 PM EDT
Some mountain artists and authors have teamed up to share their love of reading with local students.

And as you'll see in our Never Stop Learning report, they bring along their traveling exhibit to help tell their stories.

Local writer Jean Ann Taylor is sharing her book about Tilly the "little girl who loves to twirl."

Along with the  artist, Karen Hawkins, who made the doll to go along with the book.

Hawkins is one of 14 Western North Carolina doll makers who created their work inspired by beloved storybook characters.

She was on our News 13's "Craft Corner" this week making dolls.  Click here to watch that segment.

This morning some of the doll makers and writers are visiting Haw Creek Elementary school to discuss their creative process.

The artists are also talking with the students about achieving your goal, even if you've tried numerous times and failed.

If you would like to see all of the storybook characters, they're on display at Pack Memorial Library through April 13th.Characters Come Alive!
