Updated: Monday, September 16 2013, 11:48 PM EDT
It is a family affair every year.

People head to the apple orchards to make memories and enjoy the fruits of their labor, but it can be educational too.

In tonight's Never Stop Learning we head to Sky Top Orchard in Flat Rock where teachers take their classroom lessons outdoors.

First, some advice and guidance on how to pick apples and then it's time to head to the orchard.

Here at sky top there are 30 different varieties to choose from and everyone has their favorite.

Visitors can spend as much time as they like in the orchard.

For school groups the field trip is educational.  They learn about growing the apples, why the sun, soil and water is needed, and they learn why the bees are so important to the process.

The owners say school groups have been coming to sky top orchard for about 20 years now and each year it just gets better and better

And they have more than apples!  They have grapes, peaches, pumpkins and Asian pears!Sky Top Orchard
