50 Years Of Barbecue

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 10:15 PM EDT
This month marks a half-century of comfort food for generations of loyal customers.

Little Pigs BBQ is a familiar eatery right across from Asheville High School.

Owners Joe and Peggy Swicegood say their gamble back in 1963 paid off.
"50 years ago I had three little babies," Peggy recalls. "Joe decides to go into the BBQ business, it scared me to death, but I had faith in him."

Joe Swicegood, now 86, says he keeps people coming back with a taste of customer service.
"You gotta think about your customers," Joe says. "That's the most important thing."

Michael Jordan once ate at Little Pigs back in the 80's, but regulars like Eve Owens are just as important to the Swicegoods.

"Just the best BBQ," Eve says, while eating lunch."And you get the hush puppies and it seals the deal!"
