Special Report: Spirit To Spare story image

The Asheville Smokies Blind Bowling League held its first ever state-wide bowling tournament. Teams from across the state participated in the day-long tournament at Star Lanes in Asheville. Most of the 60 players had limited sight or were legally blind. They used a metal rail to guide them to the lane.

James Benton, president of the Raleigh Outlaws says the sport is a bonding time for those without sight.

"I can't say I've seen specifically the outcomes on their faces, but I can hear it in their voices and see it in their actions that they really appreciate what we do," said Benton.

First place in the team division went to a group from the Raleigh Outlaws. Second place went to members of the Asheville Smokies.
