100-Acre Wildfire Burns Transylvania County

Updated: Friday, April 26 2013, 09:51 PM EDT

Dense smoke blankets the mountains in Transylvania County after several suspicious fires were set there. The battle is still on to get the flames under control. At this point, the fire has grown to 100 acres and is only 20 percent contained.

Several smaller fires broke out along US-64 between Rosman and Lake Toxaway around 11 a.m. Friday. The blaze grew into a huge acre fire threatening nearby homes. So far, no evacuations have been ordered. But firefighters from across Transylvania County and even a crew from Oregon are here battling the flames.

The fires are considered suspicious and a criminal investigation is underway. Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen any suspicious vehicles or anyone suspicious, please contact the Sheriff's Department at: (828) 884-3168.
