Arson Sparks Fear in River Arts District

Updated: Tuesday, April 9 2013, 07:37 AM EDT
Artists headquartered in Asheville's River Arts District said Monday they're worried about a recent string of intentionally set blazes.

Eileen Black of The Potter's Mark told News 13's Mario Boone she fears the arsonist might soon graduate from torching empty buildings to occupied structures like her pottery showroom in the Cotton Mill Building on Riverside Drive.

Just a few doors down from Black an empty wing of the cotton mill was torched April 5th.

The Asheville Fire Dept. said in a news release that since April 1st there have been four arson fires across the city.

Two more fires during that same period have no cause determined yet.

Folks like Black said they just hope the person responsible is caught before more damage is done or someone gets hurt.

Call Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050 with information about the fires.
