Bear Park Investigation

The U.S. Department of Agriculture takes action against the Chief Saunooke Bear Park in Cherokee. The government agency has suspended the park's exhibitor's license and fined it $20,000. This comes just days after the animal rights group PETA released new video of the bears in captivity.
Back in September 2012, the USDA charged Chief Saunooke's with 14 violations of the Federal Animal Welfare Act. The violations included failing to maintain an adequate barrier between the bears and the public, bears are being fed out of dirty containers, and bears not being given proper veterinary care.
In order to reopen, the bear owners will have to comply with USDA regulations and reapply for their license.
