Carnival Cancels Local Couple's Cruise

For one Hendersonville family another Carnival Cruise liner stranded meant an unwelcome phone call from the travel agent Thursday.
Robert Payne and his wife were scheduled to cruise on the Dream Liner - the ship currently stuck in St. Maarten - after reporting a problem with a backup diesel generator.
The "technical problem", according to Carnival Cruise Lines has the ship's lights flickering, elevators turning on and off and has caused at least one toilet to overflow.
Payne says he's been taking traveling with the largest cruise liner in the world for decades and this is the first problem he's ever had a problem.
"It was disappointing because ... we've been planning for eight months, and we keep saying that we're gonna go snorkeling," said Payne sitting in his living room with the car outside packed and ready to drive to the Cape Canaveral launch port.
It was set to be a cruise for Payne's 78th birthday.
He says the company has offered he and his wife a discount on their next cruise, which he says will be to Jamaica.
The new plan for next week has the couple headed on a road trip to Ohio.
