A building collapse in downtown Asheville has put at least one man out of business. On Thursday, a building behind Bouchon Restaurant on Lexington Avenue caved in. The owner of Liquid Dragon Tattoo says he was sitting at his desk when the walls started coming down around him.
Robert Ashburn says he was getting ready to tattoo a customer when the old brick building came crumbling down. Ashburn says he ran out of the shop and hasn't been back in since.
The city has shut down several surrounding buildings until the mess can be cleaned up. Asheville's Building Safety Director Robert Griggin says the building may have collapsed when workers were making upgrades to it. He also says the city never approved permits to start construction.
The city says citations and fines are possible for making renovations without proper permits.
