Cutting Saturday Delivery
Updated: Wednesday, February 6 2013, 07:08 PM EST
Saturday mail delivery has been a way of life for the post office and for Americans for generations. Now the Postal Service says it is a luxury they can no longer afford, so it's cutting out Saturday delivery.
The Postmaster General says the move will go into effect in August. Last year the Postal Service lost $16 billion, as mail is increasingly sent by email or other technologies.
Cutting Saturday delivery is expected to save $2 billion. But some say home delivery is the only means of communication for many people who live here in western North Carolina, especially seniors.
Packages will still be delivered on Saturdays, and mail will still be placed in post office boxes on Saturdays. The plan goes into effect August 5th.
