Domestic Partnership Benefits Passed

Updated: Wednesday, March 20 2013, 09:00 AM EDT

Buncombe County Commissioners vote in favor of extending employment benefits for Buncombe County workers in domestic partnerships.

The vote was four to three with Democrats approving the change and Republicans voting against. Buncombe County is now the fourth county in the state to make this available to their employees and their partners.

The vote came after passionate public comment on both sides of the issue. Many at Tuesday night's meeting feel this is a major step forward, while others say it's a major step back.
