Etowah Man Charged In Father's Murder

An Etowah man is charged with murder in the violent death of his own father. Deputies arrested 44-year-old Michael Walker Sunday night after he called 911 to report his father, 71-year-old Jerry Walker, had suffered a fatal heart attack.
Sheriff's deputies and an EMS crew responded to a condominium on Sagebrush Circle in Etowah around 9:45 Sunday night. Investigators say they found Gerald Walker on the living room floor and that Michael Walker told them the two had a physical confrontation about ten minutes before. On the 911 call and reportedly face to face with investigators, Walker said he believed his dad had a heart attack. Investigators say there were inconsistencies in Walker's story.
"There was a very, very strong odor of bleach when the deputies got there. Fans blowing inside the house. Not consistent with a heart attack by any means," said Captain Frank Stout of the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators say they believe that bleach was used to clean-up blood, but blood evidence was also found at the scene. They're still trying to determine exact cause of death. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Walker is being held without bond at the Henderson County Detention Center.
