A mayor from the mountains got a frank meeting with President Obama about the looming fiscal cliff. Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy was selected to be on a conference call with President Obama Wednesday.
Mayor Bellamy says the president wanted to speak with mayors around the country about the impact the fiscal cliff could have on small cities like Asheville.
Mayor Bellamy was one of 150 mayors selected to listen to President Obama. Bellamy says smaller paychecks would hurt Asheville, a city that is starting to see economic turnaround. The mayors of Charlotte and Durham were also in on the call. Mayor Bellamy says they have all discussed the impact the fiscal cliff would have on the state budget and how they will trickle down to the local level.
Mayor Bellamy says however things shake out in Washington, she appreciates the president getting feedback from local leaders.
