Gas Thefts Up

Filling up and driving off. The number of people stealing gas in the mountains is up.
McDowell County authorities are on the hunt for a black old model Nissan truck with black wheels that stole gas from the same gas station twice in just four days.
Officials say it's the pattern around the holidays.
"Bumps up around the holidays, traveling, you have a lot of traveling going on ... it seems like it happens around Christmas time," said McDowell County Sheriff's Department Detective Nathan Mace.
Cindy Stewart is the manager of Woodlawn Gas House on US 221-N, and she says throughout the holidays - in July, November and December - drive-offs spike.
"We usually don't have but twenty dollars' worth a month, last month it was over two hundred dollars [in thefts]," said Stewart.
