Homeless Shelters Overflowed

Because of the cold, there's been a surge at Asheville homeless shelters.
"On these icy days we see a lot of homeless coming in off the streets," says Scott Rogers of ABCCM.
The Veteran's Restoration Quarters in Asheville is among the facilities seeing as surge because of the wintry weather. It normally serves about 200 men but today the number was about 250.
"It beats sleeping under a bridge," said Stephen Poulin. "You might freeze to death in weather like this."
There's a Code Purple in effect for all homeless shelters in the city. Western Carolina Rescue Ministries accommodated 64 extra people last night.
They say extra blankets are needed, especially for those who don't come into the shelter and choose to sleep in their camps outside.
