Hopeful Obama Watchers Wait At 12 Bones

It seemed like President Obama was destined to visit an Asheville barbecue destination again.
He's been to 12 Bones twice before, and many hoped the presidential craving would lead to an Executive Order again.
"I'm gonna see President Barack Obama," says Shugy Land, waiting at 12 Bones South. "He's our president. I'm so excited!"
There was no official visit planned there and 12 Bones was not notified in advance about any possible stop. Still, the crowd waited.
Many customers rolled the dice and showed up in South Asheville hoping for a special memory to go with their lunch.
When the President began his speech by giving a "shout out" to 12 Bones, many speculated that the south locale would make the most sense for an Obama sighting.
The Chief Executive did make a barbecue order. Turns out, the Secret Service called the river district 12 Bones location instead, which may have thrown off plans for a personal visit in South Asheville.
The order was written on Air Force One stationary. It added up to more than 108 dollars. Including chopped brisket for Mr. Obama.
Meanwhile, in South Asheville, a big letdown once the word got out that the motorcade was headed straight to the airport instead of Sweeten Creek Road.
"We've been waiting since 11:30 we were really hopeful he would be here," said one customer.
"You know he has a busy schedule, and he's on to more important meetings," says another Obama supporter.
Despite the disappointment, to many it's a source of Asheville pride knowing he left town with one more taste of the town.
