Jackson County Snowfall

Updated: Tuesday, March 26 2013, 07:41 PM EDT

Nearly a week into Spring and here in the mountains it looks like the middle of winter.

The highest elevations got the most snow.  At the Balsam Post Office in Jackson County, mother nature created another winter wonderland.

Residents say they've seen nearly a foot of fluffy snow.

The main roads like the Smoky Mountain Expressway are mainly wet, well sanded and salted with traffic flowing. Smaller roads still have snow and still require careful driving.

The late March snowfall is the talk around the post office.  Dianna Farrell of Jackson County says , "I live up in up in the mountains. So it just keeps coming down and down. It's nuts."

Farrell says its awfully pretty, but being from Florida she's ready for summer.

The Department of Transportation says as snow continues in colder overnight temperatures, especially up high, it will pile up more quickly on the pavement.
