The Buncombe Clerk of Court has a warning about phone messages to residents claiming they missed jury duty have to pay a $500 fine.
It's a prank, according to Clerk Steven Cogburn.
Many residents didn't find the calls funny and called the clerk's office, worried that the messages were real.
Cogburn says the clerk's office will never contact you by phone about missed jury duty.
Steven Cogburn, "we would never ask anyone to send money anywhere. If you're summonsed for jury duty you're job is to be a juror."
Officials say don't send money or give personal information over the phone to someone you haven't contacted first.
