Katuah Market Opens in Asheville

Updated: Monday, February 24 2014, 07:30 AM EST
There is yet another spot to buy natural foods in Asheville.

The Katuah Market celebrated its grand opening over the weekend.

The grocery store is located on Hendersonville Road in Biltmore station.

It offers fresh, local foods, from more than 30 regional producers.

The owner says it offers an alternative to big chain grocery stores.

John Swann, owner, "we are more of a neighborhood grocery store than we are a supermarket, and there is really nothing like it here in this whole area so we recognize that there is a good population around here that would appreciate that and so we decided to come on in and open up shop down here."

Swann was previously a co-owner of Greenlife, which was sold to Whole Foods in 2010.

He says this weekend's warmer temperatures helped jump-start this new venture, after weeks of bad weather. Katuah Market Opens in Asheville
