Local Doctor Helps Bombing Victims

Updated: Wednesday, April 17 2013, 09:40 PM EDT

One local doctor was in Boston when the explosions occurred during the marathon. He says he immediately began helping some of the victims.

Dr. Allan Panter was there to watch his wife run in the race. Just as she was nearing the finish line, one of the bombs went off injuring several people around him. He says many of those he helped had severe injuries, including a woman who later died.

Dr. Panter says many of the victims were treated in a makeshift hospital. Panter says, “Maybe I reassured a few people and like I say the bystanders were superb. I mean they just jumped in.”

For about an hour, he didn’t know his wife was safe until she used someone else's phone to text him.
