Local Priests React To Pope's Resignation

Updated: Monday, February 11 2013, 10:00 PM EST

Catholic leaders in Asheville were not surprised by Pope Benedict's resignation. They say the pontiff had made clear statements in the past that his health could force him to resign.

Parishioners and preists prayed for Pope Benedict at services Monday. They say Pope Benedict will be remembered for a series of writings and reflections about Jesus Christ.

The process of electing a new pope will start in early March. The next pope should be in place by Easter Sunday.
