Updated: Wednesday, April 17 2013, 04:58 PM EDT

A Macon County Army National Guard unit is set for deployment overseas. The 210th military police company is going to Afghanistan for a one-year tour of duty.

The deployment ceremony is Wednesday at Southwestern Community College in Sylva. More than 25 soldiers from the unit will be deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Family, friends and folks from the community will be there to wish them well.

The unit will undergo training at Fort Bliss, Texas before going to Afghanistan later this spring. They will be responsible for providing security and enforcement operations for military bases.
