New Casino Approved

Updated: Friday, April 12 2013, 01:16 PM EDT
The Eastern Band of Cherokee may be opening a new casino in the mountains.

Tribal council approved plans to build a second casino in Murphy.

Principal Chief Michell Hicks says Murphy is great place for it.

It would attract visitors from Atlanta, Chattanooga and Knoxville.

He also says the airport there could lure big players who have their own private planes.

While the new casino wouldn't be as big as the one in Cherokee, it would still be a huge boost to the local economy.

Chief Michell Hicks, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, "I'm excited about the opportunities, the job creation, benefit creation, resources that potentially it brings to the tribe, so it's very exciting."

Chief Hicks has the final say on the deal, he has ten days to sign off on it.

If that happens, he says construction could begin as early as this summer.New Casino Approved
