New Immigration Enforcement Bill

Updated: Friday, April 12 2013, 09:02 AM EDT
A bill filed by Republicans in the state House would allow law enforcement to check a person's immigration status during traffic stops or arrests.

The legislation comes two weeks after the DMV began issuing drivers licenses to illegal immigrants brought to the US as children.

The bill would establish one-year restricted permits for those drivers.

It would also allow authorities to detain anyone who they suspect is in the country illegally for up to 24 hours to check their status.New Immigration Enforcement Bill
