A jury in Rutherford County has found a former Forest City town official not guilty on charges of embezzlement. Scott Hoyle faced 12 felony charges linked to missing property when he was the head of Forest City's Public Works Department. He resigned in 2009.
Hoyle's attorney Noell Tin of Charlotte released this statement:
"Scott Hoyle was investigated by the federal government, which declined to prosecute him. Now he has been found not guilty by a jury. This has been going on for three years. My hope is that at some point the scrutiny will stop."
Tin argued there was no embezzlement and that the confusion over the equipment in question was due to problems with the town's paperwork.
