Police Swarm Montford Car, Guns Drawn

Late Thursday afternoon police swarmed an SUV in Asheville's Montford neighborhood, guns drawn.


Asheville Police say an officer received a tip around 4:30 p.m. that there was a vehicle circling the area, the people inside possibly looking to harm someone.


Officers in the area dispatched and searched up and down Montford streets, and within minutes has tracked the gold GMC down at the Montford Avenue, Cullowhee intersection.


Officers surrounded the vehicle, witnesses say at least six officers with weapons drawn, one witness saying he saw at least two officers with assault rifles.


The three suspects inside the vehicle got out and were taken into police custody.


Marquise Deqon Brown, 24, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. James Dewon Griffin, 25, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving to endanger. 23-year-old Brittany Rockell Williams is charged with carrying a concealed handgun (.357 smith and Wesson revolver).


Authorities confiscated drug paraphernalia and a handgun.
