Praying For Change

Updated: Wednesday, March 27 2013, 07:07 AM EDT

The Supreme Court has begun hearing arguments in the first of two appeals to state and federal laws banning same-sex marriage.

There was a quiet show of support for gay marriage in Asheville Tuesday night. About 400 gay marriage supporters gathered at the First Congressional United Church of Christ for a candlelight vigil. It was one of 200 others happening across the country.

In the mountains today, it was the only major demonstration for or against gay marriage and LGBT rights. North Carolina has traditionally been against same-sex marriage. Just last May, voters passed a constitutional amendment that defined marriage as between a man and woman.
