Preparing For Winter Weather
Updated: Friday, December 21 2012, 07:16 AM EST
The threat of high winds, ice and snow have some mountain counties getting ready. NCDOT crews spent the day loading up their salt and sand trucks. Workers also spent some time getting their chainsaws and loaders ready.
The high winds are expected to knock down trees and powerlines. Energy companies are preparing for power outages so they also have a plan in place. Line technicians, service crews and other workers are ready to go out if need be.
Emergency management officials say folks in the mountains should not take this storm lightly and they too need to have a game plan.
The Asheville Regional Airport also have crews on standby. With the storm pounding the Midwest, airport officials are encouraging passengers to arrive early and to check their flight status online.
