Repairs Continue On Murphy Bridge

Work continues to repair and assess the damage from a washout in Murphy.
News 13 first reported the washout Tuesday when the rain-swollen Valley River ripped a chunk out of Bulldog Drive and part of the bridge connected to it. The washout also broke water and sewer lines. Witnesses say the power of the river was frightening.
Temporary sewer service has been set, as well as temporary water to nearby Murphy High School. The closing of Bulldog Drive means a long detour for students and several homes and businesses.
The NCDOT is still working to determine if the bridge can be repaired or if a new one will have to be built.
