Reynolds Middle School 'Elves' Build Boxes For Less Fortunate

Updated: Wednesday, December 12 2012, 09:04 PM EST
Jalen Crowder of Reynolds Middle School shows us how it's done. "The top part right here, you gotta crease it inside," he said at the Salvation Army in West Asheville.

Sixth graders helped build the boxes that will eventually be filled with food as part of the Christmas Distribution effort next Wednesday. One thousand of them will be given out.

"Every one of these kids is one of those elves!" Colonel Ernest Miller says. "A part of Santa Claus."

Along with groceries, the distribution includes a warehouse full of toys contributed by the community.

Lt. Kim Cundiff says every single food-packed box is a god send to so many folks in need. "At least a week's worth depending on the size of the family so we're just glad to be able to help."
