Saving Luke

Updated: Friday, March 29 2013, 08:46 AM EDT

Brother Wolf Animal Shelter has started an online fundraising campaign for a dog in need of severe medical attention.  Luke came to the shelter from eastern North Carolina where the retriever mix was about to be euthanized.

A volunteer found Luke and brought him to Brother Wolf in Asheville and put him in a foster home.  Elena Lange says "Luke is a fabulous dog we felt was worth saving."

But what they thought were just a few minor injuries turned out to be much more.  Luke was shot two times, needs to have a leg amputated, has heart worms, was hit by a car and now needs a life saving surgery.  Volunteers made a plea on the internet at a fundraising site and within a few short hours had raised 25 hundred dollars for his first of several surgeries.

Brother Wolf is hoping they can raise more money and complete Luke's medical care and eventually find him a loving home.
