Schools Close Early

The threat of wintry weather had several area schools closing-up early today.
In Yancey County, students headed home before Noon today, trying to avoid the story.
This is part of the drill when snow is in the forecast and winter weather warnings are posted.
Yancey County schools announced this morning they would close at 11:15am, so students cued up in the long covered breezeways at Mountain Heritage.
Buses were warmed up and ready and students boarded them for an early arrival at home or work.
Students say they're glad the school make the call because they say there was a little bit of sleet that fell earlier.
"I do think it's very wise, actually, because the road we live down is very curvy, and there's going to be a lot of ice on the road" said student Ashlynn Guintero.
Other students we talked have cars here and some of them told us they have never driven on ice or snow so they were extra nervous about staying in school through mid-afternoon.
Most of them said they were driving straight home to hunker down and wait for the snow.
