Video sweepstakes machines are now banned in North Carolina. The State Supreme Court made that ruling last month, deciding sweepstakes parlors are gambling operations. Businesses along Macon County's Route 441 had either closed or were packing up the machines. The sheriff's office says it will give operators a little time to comply with the law voluntarily. But starting January 4th, will hand deliver a letter to anyone still running the machines, spelling out possible legal action following consultation with the District Attorney’s Office.
