Teacher Assistant Charged

Updated: Wednesday, April 10 2013, 07:48 PM EDT
An Asheville city schools employee is charged with taking indecent liberties with two students under the age of 10, and authorities say both cases occurred on school grounds.

25-year-old Davonte Jackson is a first-grade teaching assistant at Ira B. Jones Elementary and is a resident of Hendersonville.

Officials say the first incident happened on November 20th of last year.

The second happened just a week ago on April 3rd.

On Monday an Ira B. Jones parent went to the principal who turned the complaint over to the school resources officer.

Asheville police were the next to get the case.

They arrested and charged Jackson yesterday.

This recent incident wasn't the first time he was scrutinized by investigators.

Allen Johnson, Asheville City Schools Superintendent, "the other one was done back in November, there was an investigation done on that one too, so i know the police were involved in that investigation."

School officials say parents were notified about this situation immediately, that a statement was issued assuring them the district was working with police and that Jackson had been suspended with pay.

School officials say he underwent a full background check being hired.

Jackson was released from jail immediately on a $20,000 bond.
