Teacher Injured Breaking Up Fight

A teacher is seriously injured during a brawl that broke out in front of her classroom.

Biology teacher Carmela Blackwell is at home recuperating from injuries to her head, neck, shoulder and hip.

The fight involved five students yesterday at Enka High School.

School officials have suspended those five during the investigation.

Deputies say another teacher rescued Blackwell as the fight continued.

School custodians and the resource officer ended the brawl.

Deputies say the five students involved in the fight could face felony charges.

Lt. Mike Ruby, Buncombe County Sheriff's Office, "any time that a teacher is injured or anything like that we take that very seriously, and we want to hold everybody accountable."

Edwin Spivey, Enka High Principal, "this was a very serious incident, that we are taking very seriously at Enka High School, and we will do everything in our power to protect the students and teachers here at the school."Teacher Injured Breaking Up Fight
