Tuscola Student Charged

Updated: Friday, April 19 2013, 09:41 PM EDT
Students at a mountain high school may have helped prevent a Columbine style massacre from happening in Haywood County.

16-year-old Jonathan Tingle is in custody.

Deputies say fellow students told them he threatened violence at Tuscola High where he is a 9th-grader.

The principal told News 13's Mario Boone, Jonathan Tingle planned that Columbine style attack and bragged about it to other students.

That set off a series of events including ramped security at the school, Tingle's arrest, and a lot of rattled nerves among parents students and teachers.

Dale McDonald, Tuscola High School Principal, "we have extra security. We have multiple deputies on campus this morning. I think there's still two or three here. Sheriff Christopher just left. He's been here two hours or so."

Tingle remains in jail but security will still be high for tonight's prom.
