Upstate Business Announcement

Updated: Wednesday, February 19 2014, 08:07 AM EST
The world's largest maker of carbon fiber will soon make its home in the Upstate.

Governor Nikki Haley announced Monday that Japanese company, Toray Industries, will open a manufacturing facility in Spartanburg County. The $1 billion investment is one of the largest in South Carolina history and is expected to create more than 500 jobs in its first phase.

The governor says she's created a business-friendly environment without giving too much away.

"We don't throw money at companies. What we do is give them a site-ready spot, we do job credits after they've hired the people, and then we just support them from a business standpoint, and that's what we're gonna do with this one," said Governor Haley.

The company will locate near the intersection of  Hwy 290 and Hwy 221 in the town of Moore. No word on  when the plant will open.Upstate Business Announcement
