A fast-moving winter storm turns downtown Asheville into a virtual ghost town. Several businesses were forced to close their doors early Friday because of icy conditions and the lack of customers.
Folks say freezing rain made it very difficult to walk around. Because of the treacherous conditions, a number of stores decided to close up shop. Owners tell News 13 they may lose out on some business, but they all agreed safety is their number one concern.
"My customers they don't want to come out in this weather and their safety is very important to me," said Sandy Kanupp of Kim's Wig Center.
The owner of Tressa's Nightclub says despite the weather, they decided to remain open for those who venture out tonight in search of a little entertainment.
Many of the businesses that closed Friday say they will open at their regular times Saturday.
