WNC Nature Center's Uncertain Future

Updated: Monday, April 8 2013, 08:05 AM EDT
The city of Asheville proposes closing the WNC Nature Center due to budget cuts.

That comes as a shock to visitors touring the center's displays of wild animals from the mountains.  Adults say they came here as children, and are bringing their own kids here now.

The center's supporters say using a million-dollar budget, they attracted a record 100,000 paying visitors last year.  And they say if they lose city funding, they will try to raise other money to stay open.  They also hope federal funding continues.

Supporters have a program called "20/20 Vision" that could keep the center open and provide some renovations.  Click on "News Links" for more information.WNC Nature Center's Uncertain Future
