"Wounded Warriors" Help Struggling Vets

Updated: Friday, April 26 2013, 10:01 PM EDT

Next month, a team of heroes is coming to the mountains to help others who have served our country.

The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team will play two exhibition games locally. The proceeds benefit "operation welcome home," which provides scholarships and job training for veterans.

They'll take the field May 17th at McCormick Field in Asheville and May 18th at West Henderson high. The money raised will help struggling vets reach their dreams.

At ABCCM Veterans Restoration Quarters, the Culinary Arts Program is just one example of efforts to retrain those who have served our country.

Air Force veteran Michael Woods says he's on track to own a barbecue restaurant some day. He'd once given up on that dream.

"Thanks to this place I will get my life back on track," Woods says.
