Speed Limit Increase?

Legislation that allows transportation officials to raise the speed limit on some North Carolina roads to 75 miles per hour shows no signs of slowing down, at least in the Senate.
The full Senate scheduled debate Thursday on a bill giving the state Department of Transportation authority to set speed limits that high for some interstates and other controlled access highways.
The current limit is 70 mph. The bill was filed just last week and cleared a committee Wednesday.
The law already directs DOT to set a "reasonable and safe speed limit" on the basis of engineering and traffic levels.
The bill doesn't say which roads should get the higher limit.
Sixteen other states authorize already speed limits of 75 mph or higher, but none on the East Coast.
