Fatal I-40 Crash, Distracted Driver
Updated: Wednesday, April 10 2013, 07:28 AM EDT
Asheville Police say a distracted driver caused last week's fatal accident on I-40 and that the person behind the wheel was using her cell-phone at the time of the crash.
54-year-old Donna May died after her car hit a vehicle that had slowed for another accident ahead. Police say she had three phones in her car. Two of them were found open at the time of the accident. Investigators believe she was distracted and may never have seen the vehicle she hit.
Records show May was making outgoing calls at the time of impact. Police also say she had received one text message before the collision, but sent no texts of her own.
A memorial in her honor is set for Friday at Crossroads Assembly.
