Former Asheville Tourists manager, Joe Mikulik, returned to McCormick Field for a special ceremony Wednesday. The Tourists honored the coaching legend with his league championship ring. He also threw out the first pitch.
“Joe Mikulik is one of the true legacies of the Asheville Tourists franchise and we look forward to recognizing his efforts on Wednesday,” said Tourists president Brian DeWine. “He did a great job managing our teams while being a major part of the Asheville community. We appreciate everything he did for the Tourists and are excited to present him with his championship ring.”
Mikulik managed the Tourists from 2000-2012 and was named SAL Manager of the Year on three occasions, including the 2012 campaign. He is in his first season as a roving outfield instructor with the Texas Rangers and was in the Hickory Crawdads’ dugout during Wednesday’s game.
