Gun Law Proposal
Updated: Thursday, April 25 2013, 10:28 PM EDT
A proposed bill before North Carolina lawmakers would allow concealed permit holders to carry guns into restaurants that serve alcohol. It would also allow them to keep guns in their cars on college campuses.
News 13 found differing opinions at Western Carolina University about the measure that's passed the House Judiciary Committee. Some say if you have a concealed handgun permit, you should be able to take your gun anywhere for personal safety. Others say so many potential guns on campus would create confusion especially for police.
Jeanette Evans who runs the Mad Batter Restaurant near campus says, “ If law enforcement does come to settle (an) issue, then the law enforcement agent is wondering…well who is the bad guy when you have multiple people you know with guns or multiple people escalating the situation.”
The proposed bill goes to the full House before being taken up in the Senate.
